Kidnapped Catholic Priest in Nigeria Regains Freedom

In a positive turn of events, Very Rev Fr Thaddeus Tarhembe of St. Ann’s parish in the Catholic Diocese of Wukari, Nigeria, has been freed after being kidnapped from his parish residence. The abduction took place in the early hours of Sunday, October 29, 2023.

The good news of his release was confirmed by Rev Fr John Laike, the Communications Director of the Catholic Diocese. Father Tarhembe was set free on the evening of Monday, October 30, 2023.

The Catholic Diocese expressed its gratitude to the public for their prayers and support during this challenging time. The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wukari, Most Rev Mark M. Nzukwein, conveyed his appreciation on behalf of the priests, religious, and laity of the diocese. The release of Father Thaddeus Tarhembe is a welcome relief in a region where kidnappings and security concerns have been a persistent issue.
