The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has taken legal action against Professor Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL). This move follows ICPC’s investigation into allegations of serious misconduct against some of his students.

Professor Ndifon is facing a four-count charge, which includes allegations of sexual harassment, official corruption, and abuse of office, as outlined in sections 8, 18, and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.

One of the charges specifies that Professor Ndifon used his position as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at UNICAL to solicit nude photographs and videos from a female student through WhatsApp chats. This action is alleged to have occurred between June and September 2023, and it is considered an abuse of his authority and an act of corruption.

The case will be brought before the court on a date to be determined. Professor Ndifon had previously been arrested by ICPC, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), on October 4, 2023, in Calabar, Cross River State, after failing to respond to multiple invitations from the commission.

This legal action underscores the commitment of Nigerian authorities to address issues of misconduct, abuse of power, and harassment within educational institutions and ensure the protection of students’ rights and well-being.
