Nigerian Customs Impounds 13 Rice Trucks and Other Contrabands Worth N1.2bn

In a relentless effort to curb smuggling activities, the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’, made substantial seizures in the month of October. These seizures not only include a significant quantity of foreign parboiled rice but also a range of other items. The Acting Comptroller of the Unit, Hussein Ejibunu, unveiled these achievements during a press briefing at the Unit’s Headquarters in Lagos.

The Seized Goods:

In October, the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ intercepted an impressive haul that consisted of 13 trailer loads of foreign parboiled rice, valued at N1,241,777,700. Additionally, 17 vehicles were seized from smugglers attempting to circumvent the law. The customs unit’s relentless efforts and determination to combat smuggling activities are evident in these seizures.

Further items confiscated during this period include 14,825 liters of premium motor spirit, 657 used tires, 202 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 39 bales of second-hand clothing, 100 packs of tomato ketchup, four units of used motorcycles, 100 cartons of used soaps, and 730 sacks of hides & skin.

Nine suspects were apprehended during the anti-smuggling operations, and legal proceedings are underway in various states within the zone. The arrests and prosecutions serve as a stern warning to potential smugglers, emphasizing the commitment of the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ to enforce the law and protect the nation’s interests.

Call for Support:

Acting Comptroller Ejibunu urged well-meaning and patriotic Nigerians to continue supporting the unit with credible information that can aid in tackling economic sabotage. Such information is essential in helping the unit enhance its vigilance and effectiveness in combating smuggling and illegal activities that could undermine the country’s economic stability.
