The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has made significant appointments to strengthen security, combat violent crimes, and enhance coordination of police operations across Nigeria. One of these key appointments is the assignment of a new Commissioner of Police to Rivers State, Olatunji Disu.

The deployment of these senior police officers takes effect immediately, with the IGP emphasizing the need for the new CPs to demonstrate professional competence in their respective roles.

In Rivers State, CP Olatunji Disu takes over from CP Nwonyi Emeka. His appointment comes in the wake of recent security challenges in the state, including an explosion that damaged the State House of Assembly and an alleged attempt to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara. These events led to protests, the arrest of numerous youths, and the tragic death of a young person from a stray bullet.

CP Olatunji Disu’s new role comes just seven months after he was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police and appointed as the principal staff to the IGP. He was responsible for leading and coordinating the security team attached to the IGP’s office. Prior to this appointment, Disu served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Department of Operations at Force Headquarters in Abuja. He also previously held the position of Deputy Head of the Unit at the State Criminal Investigation Department for Rivers Command.
