Bayelsa State Off-cycle Governorship Election: Timipre Sylva Expresses Concerns

Timipre Sylva, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the off-cycle governorship election in Bayelsa State, expressed his concerns over the non-uploading of voter registers from three units of his ward in Okpoama, Brass LGA. Sylva, who cast his vote in his polling unit 4, Ward 4, identified the affected units as 3, 5, and 9, attributing the issue to what he described as a “careless mistake” by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to Sylva, his camp reported the problem to the national leadership of INEC, and the commission assured them that the issue would be resolved, with an extension of the voting time in the affected polling units.

In a press statement after casting his vote, Sylva commended INEC for improvements in the conduct of polls but acknowledged that there is always room for further enhancement.

Sylva, however, raised concerns about violence and ballot snatching allegedly perpetrated by supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in various parts of the state. He also accused some army personnel of aiding and abetting such incidents.

While expressing confidence in the overall success of the APC, Sylva emphasized the need for security agencies to ensure a fair and peaceful electoral process. He urged the security forces to maintain neutrality and prevent any acts of violence or malpractice.

The APC candidate concluded by acknowledging the overall improvement in INEC’s operations while highlighting the importance of addressing lapses and striving for continuous enhancement in the electoral process.
