Another crisis appears to be brewing in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the alleged rejection of the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, by the party’s governors.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, governors want Damagum removed from his post and a complete reorganisation of the party’s national leadership from the top to the bottom.

Damagum served as the party’s National Deputy Chairman (North) until being named temporary National Chairman in March after a High Court order barred Senator Iyorchia Ayu from operating as the party’s national chairman.

A source on the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) revealed that the governors have a strategy and confirmed that Damagum is not a part of it.

According to an unidentified source, governors want a new substantive national chairperson and do not believe Damagum is the proper person for the job.

According to the source, stakeholders will reposition the party following the Supreme Court’s dismissal of the appeal brought by its 2023 Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

He said, “We will review our performance and decide how to get the party’s new leadership. The governors are not interested in enabling stakeholders to confirm Damagum as PDP National Chairman; they have their plans and want him to reposition the party from top to bottom.

“They pointed out that holding the NEC meeting now will distract the party members from concentrating on the governorship elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo. So they delayed it to enable party members to concentrate in these governorship elections.”

Another source, a high-ranking member of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), stated, “You can’t hold NEC meetings now when we are supposed to focus on how to win governorship elections in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa.”

The PDP governors include Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Sheriff Orohwedor (Delta), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara).
