The wife of a police inspector, caught with a bag of Cannabis Sativa and other illicit drugs by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has been remanded at the Okene correctional facility. The incident, which initially led to a scuffle between NDLEA operatives and police officers, took place at a police station in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

The woman was reportedly arrested while distributing marijuana from her husband’s car parked on the police station premises. When NDLEA operatives attempted to impound the vehicle and take her into custody, a confrontation ensued with police officers challenging the arrest.

In an update on the incident, sources revealed that the inspector’s wife has been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lokoja. She admitted to the possession and distribution of illicit drugs, claiming ownership and exonerating her husband from involvement. As a result, she has been remanded at the Okene Correctional Center.

This incident highlights the challenges and complexities faced by law enforcement agencies in Nigeria in combating drug-related crimes, even within their own ranks. The NDLEA has been actively working to address drug offenses, including high-profile cases involving police officers such as the ongoing trial of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, and others for drug offenses.
