Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has criticized the Federal Government’s claim of inheriting a bankrupt nation without disclosing the actual deficit. In response to National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu’s assertion that the current administration inherited a financially challenged country, Obi emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in governance.

Obi called on the government to reveal the deficit inherited from the previous administration, highlighting the need for responsible governance to disclose the true state of the country’s finances. He pointed out the lack of improvement in key development indices during the Buhari administration’s tenure, emphasizing the importance of directing public funds toward critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and security.

Expressing concern over the escalating national debt, Obi urged the government to reduce the cost of governance and focus on essential areas to address the economic challenges faced by the country. He stressed the importance of implementing measurable and verifiable steps to improve the nation’s economy.
