Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), the nation’s former military head of state, has decided to wait until next year to hold the planned event honouring a few public office holders.

Anaedoonline.ng is aware that the purpose of the banquet was to honour the contributions of notable figures, including state governors, Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike.

Adakole Ijogi, speaking on behalf of the Planning Committee, disclosed that the much awaited occasion was first scheduled for Sunday, November 19.

Gowon has chosen to move the banquet to a later date in 2024, though. The purpose of this modification is to give individuals embroiled in ongoing election lawsuits at the Court of Appeal to focus on their legal proceedings.

“On behalf of the Banquet of Honour Planning Committee, we wish to inform all invited dignitaries and guests of a shift in the date of the banquet to another day, early next year.

“This is unfortunate due to the prolonged legal matters arising from the elections yet to be resolved.

“Please accept our most profound apologies for the date change as we shall soon confirm a new date and shall delightfully renew our invitation to all dignitaries and guests,” the statement reads.
