Millions of naira worth of property were lost on Monday when an inferno destroyed the well-known Central Market in Kabba, the State’s Kogi West senatorial constituency.
According to Tribune, there was a fire that broke out early on Monday, November 27, 2023, leaving locals and business owners shocked and distraught as many of their establishments and means of subsistence were destroyed.
An eyewitness described how the fire began on Monday morning at around five in the morning and quickly spread throughout the lively stalls and shops in the market.

Despite their best efforts, the ferocity of the fire made containment difficult. Sympathisers flocked to the scene to battle the inferno and stop its spread.
Witnesses reported that shop owners watched their assets burn up and felt powerless. The market, which was renowned for offering a wide range of products, including electronics, fresh vegetables, and textiles, is now in ruins.
This catastrophe has had a tremendous economic impact, putting numerous small enterprises in danger of going bankrupt.
Authorities are currently conducting investigations to ascertain whether electrical malfunctions, carelessness, or any other contributing circumstances caused the incident.
