Twenty-seven legislators from the Rivers State House of Assembly have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after leaving the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
The choice was made on Monday at a plenary session led by legislators Martin Amaewhule, who is reportedly a supporter of former Governor Nyesom Wike.

The state capital of Port Harcourt’s assembly complex entry was likewise guarded by tight security.
The legislators explained their defection by citing divisions within the PDP.
