During the operation, the agency’s increased efforts to stop the manufacture and sale of counterfeit goods—especially beverages—uncovered many sites involved in illegal production.

Working with law enforcement, NAFDAC discovered underground operations that were replicating well-known wine, soft drink, and other consumer brands.

Serious questions concerning the safety and legitimacy of the items were raised when it was discovered that the confiscated facilities were using recycled bottles, cloned packaging materials, and filthy operating conditions.

During the operation, NAFDAC acted decisively, destroying a major portion of the seized counterfeit and inferior goods, estimated to have a substantial financial worth.
