The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to crush the opposition and establish a one-party state in the nation amid the ongoing political unrest in Rivers State.

This is despite the body’s declaration that it will never waver in its commitment to provide stable and capable leadership to guarantee the party’s growth, stability, and efficient administration while cautioning members against making careless remarks.

Following the NWC emergency meeting on Wednesday, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, disclosed this in a press release on Thursday.

Ologunagba stated that the organisation gave reassurance to all of its members, important stakeholders, and backers on their involvement, especially in relation to the political developments in Rivers State were yielding desired results.

He declared that in spite of the present difficulties, the PDP is still solidly unified and present in Rivers State and other regions of the nation.

Ologunagba said that the NWC denounced actions, words, and conduct that it deemed careless on the part of some leaders who were seeking to discredit important Party organisations.

The NWC also advised party leaders to exercise prudence when it comes to any actions, statements, or behaviours that go against the PDP’s constitution.

“The NWC under the Acting Chairmanship of Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum remains unwavering in providing steady and effective leadership that ensures the stability, growth and effective management of interests and corporate integrity of our Party in spite of the onslaught by the All Progressives Congress, APC, to decimate opposition and impose a One-Party State on our nation,” the statement said.
