Despite the ouster of the Falconets from the ongoing U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica, Chairperson, Nigeria Women’s Football League, Aisha Falode, has commended the players and coaches of the team.

The Falconets won all three of their group games, beating France, South Korea and Canada to top their group and book a place in the quarter-finals.

Christopher Danjuma’s side then suffered a 2-0 defeat to The Netherlands on Monday (Nigerian time) – their first in the tournament – to crash out of the competition.

In spite of the elimination, Falode was full of praises for the team.

“We are proud of them, as they gave a good account of themselves, which was a huge plus for Nigeria.

The NWFL boss also reserved some praises for the Nigerian women’s league.

“We are proud of them at the NWFL, as the team to Costa Rica was made up of youngsters from the Nigeria Women’s Football League,” Falode added.

“This showed the great organisational prowess of the local league and the tendency to discover and develop world-class talents for the women’s national teams. It’s a great joy to see that the coaches are also top handlers of clubs in the NWFL. The future is very bright.”
