On Monday, Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, praised the late Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom as a lovely lady.

This was spoken by Obasanjo when discussing his friendship with the late king.

The former president expressed his admiration for the former head of the Commonwealth of Nations in a message that was made public on Monday in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

Recall that on September 8, 2022, the Queen, who ruled for 70 years, passed away.

Obasanjo claimed that in 1956, when the late Queen made her maiden trip to the nation, he was just about to graduate from secondary school.

In addition, he said that as president of Nigeria at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Abuja in 2003, he had the good fortune to host Queen Elizabeth.

Obasanjo noted that his relationship with the late Queen, while she was alive, was perfect, adding that she was a great woman who had shown a great example in human relationships.

The former president added, “she carried herself so graciously, so dignified. She was somebody I have tremendous respect for.

“I join the rest of the world to mourn with her family, the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth (because she was the Head of Commonwealth), and the rest of the world. I also mourn with Prince Charles, who promised to continue from where she had stopped. May her soul rest in peace.”
