Every year in Nnewi, the Afia Olu cultural festival is held to mark the end of the farming season and to provide customary appreciation and prayers for a bountiful harvest. A festival is held in order to declare the fresh yam fit for food in Nnewi.
According to Nnewi custom and tradition, the festival, an annual ceremony, is normally held in the month of August.

7. The Three Obi Palace: As the name suggests, there will be a variety of events taking place over the course of four days at the palaces of Obi Uruagu, Obi Umudim, and Obi Nnewichi. Many people think that each of the four communities that comprise Nnewi celebrates the Afia Olu on a separate day, starting with Otolo on the first and ending with Nnewichi on the last.
