President Bola Tinubu conferred the Super Eagles of Nigeria with a prestigious national award, Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), along with flats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and parcels of land. The announcement came during a special audience at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja, where President Tinubu warmly received the players and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh.
The commendable achievement follows the Super Eagles‘ impressive performance in the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they clinched the runners-up position in a fiercely contested tournament hosted by Côte d’Ivoire. Present at the gathering were all team members and officials, dressed in their signature green attire, including Alex Iwobi, who had endured cyber attacks following Nigeria’s loss to Cote d’Ivoire in the final match.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu hailed the team, coach, crew, and management for their dedication, perseverance, and sacrifices throughout the tournament. He lauded their ability to overcome challenges and consistently elevate their performance, culminating in an impressive journey to the finals.
President Tinubu urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the team’s resilience and unity, emphasizing the significance of their achievements in fostering national pride and unity. He encouraged young Nigerian talents across the nation to pursue their dreams relentlessly, assuring them of his administration’s support in realizing their aspirations.
“Let us use this occasion not to falter, but to unite and strive harder. As a nation, we are united under the banner of resilience, joy, hope, duty, and unwavering love represented by our green-white-green flag,” remarked the president.
He concluded with a message of hope and empowerment, highlighting the potential for aspiring Nigerian youths to become future heroes through their dedication and passion for sports. President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to nurturing and supporting talented individuals in their pursuit of excellence.
The recognition and rewards bestowed upon the Super Eagles signify not only their sporting achievements but also the nation’s acknowledgment of their contribution to national pride and unity. As Nigeria celebrates their success, the president’s words serve as a rallying call for continued excellence and perseverance across all spheres of endeavor.
