The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)-organized two-day statewide protest has drawn the participation of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN).
The MWUN Head of Media, Kennedy Ikemefuna, revealed this in a statement on Monday.
Ikemefuna claims that the NLC’s instruction to its affiliate members across the country to aggressively participate in the demonstration was the driving force behind their decision to join.
Consequently, the MWUN decided it was imperative to follow the command to the letter and join other labour unions in the countrywide demonstration.

The statewide demonstration, which NLC announced for February 16, is in response to the government’s purported inability to carry out the agreements that both parties struck on October 2, 2023, after the fuel subsidy was removed.
The decision was made after the Federal Government was given a 14-day ultimatum to take action against the widespread misery.
Ikechukwu said, “The MWUN would join the Nigeria Labour Congress’s two-day nationwide protest holding on the 27-28th of February 2024, as directed by the congress after its NEC-in-session meeting held on Monday, in Abuja, directing all its affiliate members across the nation to strictly comply.”
