The State Pilgrims Welfare Board has assured of its resolve to address the issue of abscondment during pilgrimage exercises by contingents from the state.
The assurance was given when the Board members, led by its chairman, Prof. Steve Ibenta, called on the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke in his office at the Government House, Awka, to brief him on the activities of the Board during their first three year tenure.
The Deputy Governor, who oversees the affairs of the Board on behalf of the Governor, while receiving the group, said he was aware of the expiration of tenure of the board members; adding that he would brief the Governor, who has the prerogative powers to either extend their tenure for another three years or appoint new members.
The Deputy Governor, who expressed satisfaction that he worked very well with the members, thanked them for their solidarity, urging them also to put in their best in their remaining days in office.

Earlier, Prof. Ibenta said that the issue of abscondment is not peculiar to Anambra but all states of the federation, stressing that he was happy they have done their best despite of certain challenges which mainly bordered on finance.
While pointing out that they would soon embark on the 2018 pilgrimage trip, having concluded the screening exercise, he noted also that the state government has made it that only people who are able to sponsor themselves would travel.
Other members of the Board, who were part of the visit include Reverend Canon Okey Anazodo, Dr. Blessing Eberechukwu, Lady Veronica Ilika, among others.
