NYSC Members Involved In Accident Will Be Taken Care Of – NYSC DG

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General S. Ibrahim, has expressed pain over last Monday accident that inflicted various degrees of injuries on corps members in Taraba state.

The accident which also claimed the lives of one of the Corps member have as well turned the hospital premises where the victims are receiving treatment to pilgrim site as corps members family and friends and the people of the state troop there daily to sympathize with the victims.

The DG who stormed Jalingo the state capital alongside top members of the scheme to visit the affected corps members who are presently undergoing medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo, said the scheme has earmarked out plans to take care of all the medical bills of the affected corps members.

The DG who struggled to fight back tears on sighting one of the corps member whose two hands have been amputated as a result of the accident, said plans to purchase artificial limbs for the victim from the Republic of Saudi Arabia have been put in place.

The amputated corps member (Nurruddeen Tahir) who hailed from Kano state, according to reports, was among the twenty-one corps members who were on their way to their newly posted local government council of Sardauna in Mambilla Plateau of the state shortly after departing the just concluded orientation camp for batch B corps members when the accident happened.

The DG who visited all the wards where the victims are being treated did not only shower fatherly pecks on them, but assured them of the readiness of the service to give them all the needed helping hands that would make them achieve their life ambitions.

Observing that the victims were on national assignment, he noted that the predicaments they are presently going through would not be in vain as the service would leave no stone unturned to herald many smiles on their faces.

Citing a female corps member who, recently regained freedom from her abductors in Borno state whom, according to him has been given employment by the federal government, the service as stated by him would as well tread the same path to fret victims of the accident with relevant packages after their recoveries.

On her parts, the state coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Florence Yaakugh who lauded the efforts of the state government and that of the DG, said on hearing about the accident, the state governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku “immediately ordered all involved in the accident to be treated and the bill be sent to the state for payment.”

Collaborating the DG, Yaakugh said the “DG further directed that as soon as Nurruddeen is healed of the wounds sustained, artificial limbs will be provided for him to make life much more easy for him.”

The hospital Chief Medical Director (CMD) Dr. Inusa Wizard and his team, who have been working round the clock to revive the victims, called on the federal government to go extra legitimate miles to “rehabilitate counsel and support the amputee in terms of finance and accommodation.”

The CMD who noted that the amputee “is very depressed and mentally down” believed that “retraining ” him on how to challenge the new life he found himself, would go a long way to assist him to overcome depression and other challenges he might encounter in life.
