A section of the residence of former Senate President David Mark in Otukpo town, Benue State, was on Thursday gutted by fire.

Newsmen gathered that the fire razed down the storehouse where motorcycles meant for empowerment of his constituents were kept.

Over 13 motorcycles and two ambulances belonging to the ex-lawmaker were destroyed, authorities revealed.

A source told newsmen that Mark was not around when the incident happened but added that he would go to Otukpo this weekend to determine the situation.

An insider, who would not want his name mentioned, also said the fire spread from a nearby bush bordering the fence of the ex-senate president’s GRA residence in the community.

The arrival of the State Fire Service in Otukpo prevented the fire from spreading to the main building. David Mark was the longest-serving senator in the red chamber since the return of democracy. There are many from his constituents who are of the opinion that they never benefitted from his eight-year tenure as Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This could be as a result of poor attention to pressing community needs in his region.

As for the fire, it is not clear whether it was a planned attacked or something that happened out of the blues.
