The presidency has clarified a video that went viral on social media purporting a young man as attempting to assault President Muhammadu Buhari during a visit to Kebbi State.

The presidency said the young man did not attack Buhari, but only “protested” when security agents stopped him from getting close to the president.

In the said video, President Buhari was seen trying to take photographs with Kebbi State Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, and some other people when the young man suddenly ran towards the president.

The Senior media adviser to Buhari, Femi Adesina, said the president had visited the state to declare open the Argungu Fishing and Cultural Festival when the incident took place.

“As President Buhari went round the arena to inspect rice pyramids on display, and take photographs with farmers, a young man was so very excited to see his President so close. He made an attempt to get to him.

“World over, such would not be allowed by security details. The young man was prevented, and he protested that he should be allowed to greet his President. Now, professional contortionists are making mischief of the event. They are passing the video clip off on social media as an attempt to attack President Buhari.

“Malicious people always twist things to give a negative narrative. But they simply dash their heads against the wall. The country moves on,” Adesina said in a statement shared on his Facebook page.
