About 240,000 Americans Might Die From Coronavirus – White House

The White House has predicted that with the current social distancing guidelines, as much as 100,000 to 240,000 might die from the coronavirus pandemic.

The cases of coronavirus continues to rise globally, with the U.S. death toll rising to 3,669, and officially surpassing that of China.

Nigeria itself, is experiencing a rise in case of the pandemic, as 151 cases have been confirmed in the country as of now.

Dr. Tony Fauci, the White House Coronavirus co-ordinator and also the director of of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has painted a very bad picture for Americans, as the confirmed cases in the country surpasses 180,000.

‘The answer is yes – as sobering a number as that is, we should be prepared for it,’ he said when asked about the six-figure death mark during the daily White House press briefing.

‘Is it going to be that much? I hope not and I think the more we push on the mitigation the less likely to be that number but, being realistic, we need to prepare ourselves that is a possibility that that’s what we’ll see.’

Dr. Deborah Birx, who is coordinating the administration’s day-to-day response to the disease, also discussed models that showed how without mitigation efforts, the projected death count in the U.S. was between 1.5 and 2.2 million. With effective mitigation efforts, Birx said those numbers could drop to between 100,000 and 240,000, which was still “too much,” she noted.

Fauci adding to what Birx said, continued;

‘We don’t accept that number, that that’s what it’s going to be. We’re going to do everything we can to get that number even below that,’
