Just In: COVID-19: 137 Canadians Flown Out Of Nigeria

One hundred and thirty-seven Canadians nationals have been evacuated out of Nigeria via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

The Canadians were this morning flown out of Lagos airport on board an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 767 flight marked ET8201 with registration number ET-ALO.

The aircraft, however, took off at exactly 1129hrs to Abuja to pick other evacuees slated for the flight.

The aircraft took off with 137 Canadians and 11 crew.

Similarly, 140 Lebanese nationals and 37 Egyptians were yesterday evacuated out of the country through the Lagos airport following the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Just recently, 274 Israeli citizens were evacuated from Nigeria following the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

Mr. Yotam Kreiman, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Israeli Embassy in Abuja oversaw the evacuation process which is part of the Israeli government’s effort to protect its citizens from contacting coronavirus (COVID-19).

Speaking to newsmen at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Kreiman stated that the evacuation became necessary due to the global increase in cases of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Israeli nationals were evacuated on a direct flight to Israel by a private Nigerian airline, making it the first time there will be a direct flight to the country from Nigeria. Passengers on board the aircraft include embassy staff and others working for private companies in Abuja.
