Police Arrest Two Nurses For Child Trafficking

Two nurses have been arrested by the police for allegedly trafficking a newly born baby girl in Katsina. Spokesman of the State Police Command, Gambo Isah said the nurses identified as Misira Tijjani and Grace Ejigu were arrested on July 28 after a tip-off.

They reportedly conspired and sold the child to one 45-year-old Eucharia Onyema of Sabuwar Kasuwa quarters in the state.

Isah said; “On July 25th 2020 at about 10:00hrs, one Shamsiyya Sani, aged 25 years of Dandagoro quarters, Katsina was delivered of a baby girl at Okomos Clinic, Kofar Kaura, Katsina.

“She later abandoned the child at the hospital with a handwritten note stating that she was born out of wedlock hence the abandonment.

“Nemesis caught up with them when they were arrested on their way from the hospital to their houses with the child through the help of a Keke Napep rider who suspected them of stealing of the child. An investigation is ongoing.”

Anaedoonline.ng reported that the Enugu State Police Command has paraded a woman identified as Uchechi Joseph for allegedly selling her son to one Dr. Benedict Agbodache, owner of Moonlight Hospital and maternity, Coal Camp for 300,000.00

The command also paraded other suspected criminals for their alleged involvement in different criminal offences carried out in the state in the month of March.

Parading the traffickers at the State Police Headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Abdurrahman, explained that the suspects were arrested following a report made by Uchechi on 5th March that one Abubakar Idris took her to moonlight hospital where she put to bed a baby boy.

“However, Dr. Agbodache of the said hospital bought the child at the sum of N300,000.00 from her and she used the sum of 45,000.00 to get a sewing machine” he noted.

Abdurrahman further explained that upon arrest, the doctor admitted that he sold the child to one Ukamaka Onah at the sum of 1,000.000.00, adding that the child has been rescued, while investigations are ongoing to arrest more suspects.

While noting that other suspects were arrested for offences ranging from conspiracy, murder and cultism, he said the latest feat by the police, state CID and Anti cult was achieved through the ongoing Operation Puff Adder of the Nigerian police force.
