FRSC Confirms Death Of School Children In Enugu

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Enugu State Command has confirmed the death of 21 school children in the auto crash that occured at Mgbowo in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The Enugu Sector Commander, Mr Ogbonna Kalu who confirmed the incident to newsmen said the accident occurred on Wednesday evening at about 4:30pm.

According to him, the incident occurred when a lowbed lost control and rammed into a school bus conveying school children from Presentation Nursery and Primary School, Awgu, owned by the catholic Diocese of Awgu.

The FRSC boss blamed the accident on mechanical fault of the Lowbed, which according him had a problem while descending a sloppy and curved road at Nkwo Awgu junction.

He said that many other children including roadside artisans were critically injured in the accident.

Kalu said that many parents had taken their children to different hospitals before officers of the command arrived the scene of the incident adding that the school bus had 51 school children, including primary and secondary, a driver and two teachers.

He condoled with the parents of the children who lost their lives and the Catholic Diocese of Awgu.
