Yesterday, 3rd May 2021, we published an opinion by a public affairs commentator Ebuka Onyekwelu in which he called former APGA national chairman Victor Umeh’s endorsement of Chukwuma Soludo for the gubernatorial ticket of APGA as “raging controversy” which could be a “giant minus” to the party and Soludo.

Victor Umeh has now replied Onyekwelu and other critics of his action. “It is very unfortunate, how people misrepresent someone and continue to make it the subject of Analysis,” he began. He went on to draw comparisons with the politics in the United States of America:

“Every Party ensures the emergence of a Candidate that will help it win the Election. In America, it is done through Endorsements by Critical Stakeholders before the Primary. The more Critical Endorsements an Aspirant garners, the brighter chances of his or her emerging the Candidate of the Party!”

“Why is the reverse the case here with some people?” he queried. “People should concentrate on supporting anyone of their Choice instead of criticizing my Endorsement of an Aspirant of my Choice.”

He urges other big wigs and personalities of the party to “quickly” do the same thing and publicly “endorse their Choice Aspirant and stop wasting time attacking me!”

Here’s the moment Soludo declared to run for governor

“I made it clear that with, Prof Soludo, my Party stands the best chance of winning the election on November 6th, 2021. If not, why are the people in other Parties very angry with me for endorsing him and leading the attacks on me? They have actually confirmed that Prof Soludo is their headache and nightmare.”

Victor Umeh was careful to point out that he is not out to dim the shine of other candidates. “I did not talk down on any of the other Aspirants in APGA,” he said.

“I appealed for dialogue and disposition to unite and ensure Victory for APGA in the Election. They should disregard and ignore all those in the other Parties who whilst campaigning for Victory for their Parties, are urging and campaigning for them to emerge as APGA Candidate.”

Victor Umeh also urged party faithful to guide against people who are out to “sow seeds of discord among APGA Leaders to disorganize their preparation for the Election.” In any way, “This Strategy will certainly fail. We should stop this cynical politic!”
