Umahi’s Sack: Court REJECTS Stay Of Execution Request

A motion for a stay of execution made before the Federal High Court in Abuja by the beleaguered Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, and his deputy, Kelechi Igwe, was dismissed.

The two individuals had petitioned the court for a stay of execution on a court judgment dismissing them from their positions as a result of their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) (APC).

However, in a judgement issued on Monday, Justice Inyang Ekwo stated that the motion could not be granted because the case was already before the Court of Appeal.

INEC Releases Update On David Umahi’s Sack As Ebonyi State Governor

Anaedoonline.ng reports Ekwo struck out the case following a request by the lawyer representing Umahi and his deputy, Chukwuma Ma-Chukwu Ume (SAN) who had approached the court to withdraw the motion.

He told the court he would like to withdraw the motion on the grounds that an appeal had been entered at the Court of Appeal on the matter.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawyer, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN), did not oppose the application.

Therefore, Justice Ekwo in a short ruling granted the request and struck out the matter.
