Femi Falana, a renowned human rights attorney and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has declared that teachers at public universities are prepared to call off the ongoing ASUU strike.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU, has declared an indefinite strike over a dispute with the federal government, forcing students to deal with the consequences when returning to their various homes.

Despite numerous meetings with government officials, the ASUU leadership was unable to come to an agreement.

The varsity lecturers are more than prepared to resume work, according to a statement released by Falana on Thursday, but the Federal Government should first consider granting their demands.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the SAN had earlier requested that the Federal Government submit a supplemental budget to allocate N200 billion for the renovation of federal universities around Nigeria.

“Based on our conversation with the leadership of ASUU, we have confirmed that the whole members of ASUU are prepared to call off the strike as soon as the FG/ASUU Renegotiated Agreement is executed by the Federal Government,” Falana wrote in a second message on the ongoing strike on Thursday.

“In this circumstance, we are compelled to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to end the industrial action by directing the Minister of Education, Mr Adamu Adamu to execute the Renegotiated Agreement.
