The Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU, refuted a rumor that it had labeled state-owned universities as being fraudulent.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, numerous media outlets received a deluge of comments on Friday in response to an alleged statement made by Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, President of the ASUU, that state universities are quackery and shouldn’t be taken seriously.

Remember that on Thursday, Professor Osodeke came on Arise TV and spoke about a few problems related to the ongoing strike that ASUU began more than six months ago.

“Talk about important colleges not those quacks,” the ASUU president stated when asked about some State universities that had lately quit the fight. They are not involved in our strike.

Concerned Nigerians and certain State universities have condemned the ASUU president for purportedly calling State universities “quack” in response to the development.

Recall that yesterday, in response to the news, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, vice chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), called the president of ASUU a careless talker and called universities that are not on strike “quacks.”

This is not a quack, according to Professor Adebooye, who noted that the State university employs 481 full-time academic staff members, 387 of them hold full-time Ph.D.s.

The ASUU president, however, refuted the claim in an interview with Newsmen on Saturday, claiming that the media had misquoted him.

Osodeke said that he was only talking to the three State-owned universities that are not currently on strike.

Osodeke called the report phony and bemoaned the lack of professionalism in reporting, suggesting that it was done to confuse the system.

He said, “There is nothing like that. It is a lie. I have told myself that I will not talk to the press again because they always misrepresent things.

“I have found out that Nigerian press is specialized in manipulating interviews, reporting what someone did not say just to create confusion in the system. They won’t report things the way it is”.
