The Ekiti/Ondo Atiku Movement, an Atiku Abubakar supporter group, has rejected the request for Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP’s national chairman, to resign made by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Recall that Makinde requested that Ayu step down from his position during a South-West stakeholders meeting with Atiku Abubakar in Ibadan.

According to Makinde, in order for the party to advance toward the general elections of 2023, Ayu must submit his resignation. Additionally, someone from the South West must hold the position of PDP chairman in order to demonstrate their inclusion in the party’s operations.

The South West PDP never agreed that Ayu should quit, the organization claimed in a statement issued on Saturday by its publicity secretary, Ade Ajepe, emphasizing that Makinde only expressed his personal opinion.

The organization said that the South-West PDP never made the decision to rebel against the party’s National Executive Committee, which supported the National Working Committee.

It added that the party must follow the road of constitutionalism, rules, and regulations, claiming that the governor’s viewpoint was not based on reality or reason.

The South-West is interested in the party leadership, but not by backstabbing, a dagger drawn, or a back door, as being championed by Governor Makinde and his co-travelers who are evidently primarily from outside the South-West Zone, according to the statement.

“When the position of the chairman was zoned to the South-West, those masquerading as the defenders of the region now, for selfish reasons collaborated and colluded with a South-South governor to hijack the position to Rivers State.

“As a party, we must follow the path of constitutionalism, rules and regulations, party convention, practices and principles on all matters including this one.”

However, the group advised Ayu to ignore the diversions and keep up the good job that the party’s NEC had attested to.
Additionally, it exhorted the party to connect with every member across the nation and rally them under the upcoming responsibility.
