It is no coincidence that following the visit of Mr. Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 Presidential Election, to the former head of state, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, also known as IBB, the former head of state described the type of person Nigeria requires to succeed President Muhummadu Buhari in 2023.

Obi paid a visit to the former head of state on July 14th, 2021, shortly after announcing his desire to run for President under the People’s Democratic Party.

After the visit, the former military head of state said that he had already seen the type of person who will be the future Nigerian President.

During an appearance on Arise Television, IBB urged Nigerians to prioritize people in their 60s by 2023.
A discovery that automatically ruled out any kind of support for Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, both of whom are in their 70s.

According to the former military dictator, poor leadership is a big contributor to the country’s socioeconomic problems.

According to him, Nigeria is in desperate need of a leader who connects with the people and attempts to engage with them, rather than one who “talks on top of the people.”

“I have started visualising a good Nigerian leader. That is, a person, who travels across the country and has a friend virtually everywhere he travels to and he knows at least one person that he can communicate with,” he said.

“That is a person, who is very verse in economics and is also a good politician, who should be able to talk to Nigerians and so on. I have seen one, or two or three of such persons already in his sixties.”

When asked if the candidate could win the 2023 presidential election, Babangida replied, “I believe so if we can get him.”

It is documented that Peter Obi personally traveled all thirty-five (35) states of the country, with the exception of Adamawa (out of respect for his patron, Atiku) and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. To convey to the public his desire to turn around Nigeria.
