The Independent National Electoral Commission has been praised by Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, for implementing the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System or BVAS.

The implementation of the new technology, according to Akeredolu, will make it impossible for elections in Nigeria to be manipulated once more.

When the departing Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Dr. Rufus Akeju, visited the governor in his office in Akure, the governor made the following statement: “I am delighted that it’s getting more and more difficult for anybody to encourage INEC to rig the election. I keep assuring people that elections are hard to rig because I have been engaged in so many of them.

β€œIt has become more difficult now, because whether we like it or not, INEC has improved on its work over time, and I want to congratulate you (Akeju) and the chairman for the good work you are doing.”

Akeredolu asked INEC to find a means to give the PVC more value outside of its use for voting in order to make it more desirable for people to collect. He also praised the retiring REC for the fact that no election was declared inconclusive while he served as the state’s REC.

Rufus Akeju, the retiring resident electoral commissioner, earlier expressed his gratitude to the Ondo State government and its citizens for their assistance and support throughout his service.
