The joint security operatives have successfully rescued a Catholic cleric and two other individuals who had been abducted by gunmen in Ogbunka, situated in the Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. The operation also led to the arrest of three suspects involved in the abductions.

According to a statement by Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation, which involved the police, military, and paramilitary services, resulted in the recovery of three pump-action guns, nine vehicles that had been snatched at gunpoint, camouflage uniforms, and various other items from the arrested suspects.

The security forces have been conducting extensive intelligence gathering and investigations for several months, attributing the recent surge in abductions in Orumba North and South, as well as parts of Aguata Council Areas, to the criminal gang that was targeted.

In describing the operation, Ikenga stated, “The Police-led Forward Operating Base (FOB) comprising military and paramilitary Services based in Aguata and supported by Police Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu stormed insurgents’ camp at Ogbunka in Orumba South LGA.”

The successful operation led to the safe rescue of the three abducted individuals, including a Reverend Father, who were all found to be unhurt. Additionally, nine vehicles and three pump-action guns were recovered. Various items, such as stolen camouflage uniforms, a Biafra flag, several handsets, flash drives, and SIM cards, were also seized, which would aid in comprehensive investigations and prosecution.
