Enugu State’s Ambitious Road Construction Initiative: Transforming Infrastructure for the Future

Peter Mbah, the Enugu State, Governor recently initiated a transformative road construction project that will reshape the region. This ambitious endeavor encompasses various elements, including the construction of 17 kilometers of dual carriageway and feeder roads, a 40-kilometer dual carriageway stretching from Owo to Ubahu, Amankanu, Neke, and Ikem, as well as the construction and reconstruction of 71 urban roads within Enugu’s capital city.

The governor kicked off the Premier Layout road project, which marked the symbolic beginning of the reconstruction of the 71 urban roads. During the ceremony, Governor Mbah expressed unwavering commitment to ensuring that these urban roads are executed and completed simultaneously, to have them ready before the end of December.

Mbah assured the public that the necessary funding for these projects has been secured, leaving no room for delays or variations. He emphasized that stringent monitoring would be in place to ensure both the agreed-upon quality standards and strict timelines are met.

The governor’s vision extends beyond simply constructing roads; it includes creating high-quality infrastructure. The roads are being designed with well-paved pedestrian paths, streetlights, and durable construction to guarantee long-lasting results.

At the inauguration of the New Enugu City roads project, covering 10,000 hectares of land, Governor Mbah reasserted his administration’s commitment to elevating Enugu’s status within Nigeria and globally. This colossal project, undertaken by China Communication Construction Company (CCCC), will position Enugu as a city on par with renowned urban centers worldwide.

Governor Mbah is confident that within the next 24 months, New Enugu City will emerge as a fully functional and modern metropolis. The project’s scope covers 26 square kilometers, including Happy Island, Vitality Bay, and Innovation Park, aligning with its purpose and vision.

Additionally, the construction of the 40-kilometer Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Neke-Ikem dual carriageway was also initiated. This road is expected to serve as a major gateway to the North Central region, facilitating the expansion of rural areas and stimulating economic growth.

In his address, Governor Mbah expressed his administration’s commitment to constructing a substantial 10,000 kilometers of roads over the next eight years. This infrastructure development aims to encourage investment and improve the quality of life for the people of Enugu.

Contractors involved in these projects, including the Deputy Managing Director of CCCC Nigeria, Henry Li, have assured the government of their dedication to delivering high-quality and timely results.

The local communities have also welcomed these initiatives with enthusiasm, showing their support and appreciation for the governor’s commitment to improving the region’s infrastructure. With the active cooperation of the government, contractors, and local communities, Enugu State is poised to undergo a remarkable transformation that will benefit its residents and attract investors from near and far.
