In a significant development, Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, laid the foundation for the construction of cluster settlements for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Benue State. This initiative aims to provide a dignified and sustainable solution for displaced individuals who have suffered due to ongoing conflicts in the region.
Dr. Edu, who arrived in the state for a two-day visit, unveiled the construction of the cluster settlement in Mbagwen, Makurdi Local Government Area. She emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to resettling the displaced persons and alleviating their suffering.
The minister expressed the need to bring hope to the people of Benue, who have endured prolonged displacement. She highlighted the government’s dedication to assisting them in returning to their homes and rebuilding their lives. President Tinubu’s promise to work with Governor Hyacinth Alia to facilitate this return is now being realized through the foundation-laying ceremony.
Dr. Edu acknowledged the hardships faced by the displaced people and emphasized that they should not live in makeshift conditions. The project aims to empower them financially and provide the means to construct their own homes, thus restoring their dignity. The ultimate goal is to enable them to wake up in their homes and contribute to the nation’s food production.
