According to reports, some hotheads in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are considering retaliating violently against Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his associates over what they perceive to be an attempt by the governor to blackmail the opposition party.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Atiku and Wike, along with a few governors, have been at odds ever before Atiku was announced as the PDP’s presidential candidate in May 2022. When Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State, was selected as Atiku’s running mate on June 16, the crisis got worse. All attempts to reach a consensus have failed.

On Thursday, Atiku met with Wike in London together with the governors of the various states of Abia, Benue, Adamawa, and Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu, Samuel Ortom, and Seyi Makinde. Other PDP participants were Donald Duke, in attendance.

According to the source, the gang is also thinking about creating caretaker committees outside of their control, dissolving party executive boards in states where Wike has sympathizers, or adopting other drastic actions.

If the PDP does not perform well in the presidential election in the states of Abia, Benue, and Oyo, these methods include engineering the withdrawal of support for Ikpeazu and Ortom in their bids for the Senate and Makinde, who is running for reelection as governor.

According to sources, the Wike faction proposed that PDP Chairman Iyorchia Ayu be replaced with someone from the South at the London conference as conditions for their coorperation.

But the Wike group has been informed that holding a convention to nominate a new chairman before to the general election is not viable.

The report claims that these hotheads have vowed to not only ignore the governors of the Rivers State and his friends but also to make life difficult for them in the upcoming months.
