A security guard, identified as David Isaac, attached to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Nkpor Uno in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has allegedly stabbed a yet-to-be-identified teenager and member of the church to death.
It was gathered that the incident happened inside the church premises at about 8 pm last Tuesday.
This was corroborated in a viral video that is currently circulating on social media, where a voice narrated how the incident happened and also blaming the church for employing the security guard.
Our correspondent, who visited the church on Tuesday, observed palpable silence on the premises as few parishioners were seen moving from one place to another.
A source in the church who craved anonymity told our correspondent that the security guard under the employ of a private security company, pierced a dagger through the neck of the victim during a scuffle and he was confirmed dead when he was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The source said, “Trouble started when the security guard was patrolling around the church premises, which is their routine exercise. In the process, he saw the victim with another girl inside the church’s chapel staying in a compromised situation.
“Although we were in the church auditorium when we started hearing some noise from the chapel corner, when we got there, we saw the boy in a pool of blood. When interrogated, the security guard said he caught the victim having sex with a girl inside the church chapel at about 8 pm on that fateful day.
“The guard said he queried the boy as to why he was allegedly having intercourse inside a holy place like the Chapel, the victim denied having sex with the girl but insisted that he was only praying with the girl.
“When the guard insisted that he saw them having sex, the victim flayed up and engaged in a hot argument which headed to a fisticuff between the duo. It was at this point that the guard applied his dagger on the victim.”
Another resident, who also did not want her name on the print, said the victim bled to death while he was being rushed to the hospital.
She said, “This is such a sad incident because we did not expect such a thing to happen. I don’t know if the boy was a member of the church or not, but the girl is a member of the church and she has insisted they were praying in the chapel and not having sex.”
The Parish Priest of St Alphonsus Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Peter Okoli, could not be reached when our correspondent visited, but a top official of the parish who pleaded anonymity because he was permitted to officially speak on the matter, confirmed that the suspect had been handed over to the police at the Ogidi Division for further investigations.
He added that the church had beefed up security within the premises since the incident occurred because friends and relations of the victim were threatening to burn down the chapel in protest.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer, at Ogidi Police Division, Frank Amobi, simply confirmed the incident and explained that the suspect was in their custody. He declined further details and referred our correspondent to the state police spokesman.
When also contacted, the state police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, told our correspondent over the telephone that he had yet to get the detailed report of the incident, even as he promised to make the report available as soon as it was ready.
INVESTIGATION
: Former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika and Daughter to be Arraigned for Alleged Abuse of Office
In recent developments, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is gearing up to arraign former Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, along with his daughter Fatima and two others, before Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Maitama. This move comes as part of an investigation into alleged abuse of office, with charges totaling N2.7 billion.
Sirika, who served as a minister under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, faces a six-count amended charge. The allegations revolve around purported financial misconduct, including fraudulent contracts supposedly awarded during his tenure. These accusations have prompted a thorough inquiry by the EFCC, leading to Sirika’s detention on April 23 in Abuja.
Sirika – Nigeria Air Project Is Unstoppable
According to sources within the EFCC, Sirika was summoned for questioning regarding suspected contract irregularities during his stewardship at the ministry. He voluntarily engaged with investigators before being detained at the commission’s Formella Street facility in Wuse 2, Abuja. The commission’s investigations reportedly span Sirika’s tenure, indicating a concerted effort to scrutinize the alleged mismanagement of public funds.
Originally scheduled for Tuesday, the arraignment was postponed due to the EFCC’s request to amend the charges, resulting in a rescheduled court date. This development underscores the gravity of the allegations and the meticulous legal process underway to ensure a fair and thorough adjudication.
The inclusion of Sirika’s daughter, Fatima, in the list of defendants adds another layer of complexity to the case. While the specifics of her involvement remain unclear, her inclusion suggests a broader examination of familial ties and potential complicity in the alleged offenses.
The impending trial of a former high-ranking government official and his family underscores the Nigerian government’s commitment to combating corruption at all levels. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and transparency in public office.
As the legal proceedings unfold, stakeholders await further revelations and insights into the alleged abuses of power and financial improprieties. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly reverberate across Nigeria’s political landscape, shaping perceptions of governance and accountability for years to come.

The letter, signed by Marvin Omorogbe Esq., highlights the repeated failure of the school to address instances of bullying effectively, leading to a hostile and unsafe environment for students. It condemns the school’s tepid response to the incident, which referred to the battery as a mere “incident between minors,” failing to acknowledge the severity of the situation.
Bwala’s legal team has given the school a 48-hour ultimatum to take action against the student bullies, failing which they have vowed to pursue legal recourse against Lead British International School, Gwarimpa, Abuja.

Air Peace Chairman: Concerns Over Foreign Carrier Conspiracy on Nigeria-UK Route
In a recent development, Allen Onyema, the Chairman of Nigeria’s indigenous carrier Air Peace, has voiced serious concerns regarding what he perceives as a coordinated effort by foreign airlines operating on the Nigeria-UK route to drive Air Peace out of international operations. On a televised program, Onyema expressed his dismay over what he termed an “unspoken alliance” among these foreign carriers to undercut Air Peace’s presence on the Nigeria-London route by slashing airfares.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, Onyema didn’t mince his words as he highlighted the potential ramifications of such actions. He warned that if Air Peace were prematurely forced out of the market, Nigeria would suffer significant economic losses, estimating the impact to be potentially tenfold, with billions of naira at stake. Such a scenario, he emphasized, would also exert immense pressure on the country’s currency, exacerbating existing economic challenges.
On March 30, 2024, Air Peace took a bold step in response to what it perceives as an unfair Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. The airline launched direct flight operations from Lagos to Gatwick Airport in London, marking a strategic move aimed at asserting its presence and competitiveness in the international aviation market.

The allegations made by Onyema underscore the challenges faced by indigenous carriers like Air Peace in competing with well-established foreign airlines. Despite being a relatively new player in the industry, Air Peace has rapidly gained recognition for its commitment to safety, reliability, and customer service. However, the alleged concerted efforts by foreign carriers to drive out competition raise questions about the fairness and transparency of the aviation market.
In light of these developments, it is imperative for relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the claims made by Onyema and ensure a level playing field for all airlines operating on the Nigeria-UK route. Additionally, there is a pressing need to review and renegotiate existing bilateral agreements to safeguard the interests of indigenous carriers and promote healthy competition within the aviation industry.
Ultimately, the fate of Air Peace and other Nigerian airlines navigating the complexities of international air travel hinges on the ability of stakeholders to address these challenges effectively and uphold principles of fairness, equity, and competitiveness in the global aviation landscape.

The discriminatory action sparked outrage among the public and prompted swift intervention from FAAN. The decision to close the KFC outlet underscores the gravity of the situation and sends a clear message that discrimination of any form will not be tolerated within airport premises.
Debola Daniel’s experience highlights the ongoing challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in accessing public spaces and the urgent need for businesses to adopt inclusive policies.

Okuama killings: Army declares eight persons wanted
In connection with the killing of 17 soldiers in the Okuama community of Delta State, the Nigerian Army has intensified its efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. Declaring eight individuals wanted, including both men and a woman, the Army is focusing its investigation on a suspected militant leader and his associates.
The persons declared wanted include seven men and one woman.
They are Akevwru Daniel Omotegbono, Prof Ekpekpo Arthur, Andaowei Dennis Bakriki, Igoli Ebi (female), Akata Malawa David, Sinclear Oliki, Clement Ikolo Oghenerukevwe and Reuben Baru.
According to official sources, the suspects, believed to be behind the bloodshed, have their operational base in Igbomotoru, a riverside community in the Southern-Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The dragnet cast by the Nigerian Army has led to the apprehension of three individuals in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, signaling a broadening scope of the investigation across multiple states in the Niger-Delta region.
Nigerian Troops Invade Okuama as Demolition of Houses Continues
While initial speculation suggested a link between the killings and a land dispute, insiders point to divergences related to oil bunkering as the underlying motive. Lt. Col Ali, one of the victims, had been actively combating illegal oil activities in the area, drawing the ire of those involved in the illicit trade.
General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of the Defense Staff, emphasized the importance of apprehending the perpetrators, highlighting the need to recover stolen arms and ensure prosecution. His remarks underscore the gravity of the situation and the determination of the military to restore order.
However, amidst the pursuit of justice, questions arise regarding the disproportionate response directed towards the Okuama community. Despite indications that the attack was orchestrated by individuals involved in oil bunkering, the community has faced repercussions, including the displacement of innocent civilians and the destruction of property.
The emergence of a viral video featuring a militant leader confessing to involvement in the killings has provided crucial leads for investigators. The Army has urged state governments and host communities to cooperate in identifying and apprehending the culprits, emphasizing the collective responsibility in ensuring justice for the fallen soldiers.
Allegations Surface Surrounding Binance Executive’s Escape from Custody
Dennis Amachree, former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), has alleged that the fleeing Binance executive Nadeem Anjarwalla rubbed hands with some conniving security agents to escape from custody.
Amachree made this claim in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics on Monday.
He said, “Binance executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla has rubbed hands with some security agents who facilitated his escape. I am happy they have arrested some of them, they should tell us exactly what happened.”
The security expert said the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) should have transferred Anjarwalla to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or the secret police for custody.

According to him, the suspect and his colleague at the cryptocurrency exchange platform, Tigran Gambaryan, should have been placed on watch-list when they were detained in Abuja late February.
He added that Anjarwalla and Gambaryan should have been placed on watchlist with the Nigeria Immigration Service and their photos and names flagged at all airports across the country.
Amachree said, “If the man has been flagged as a threat or a suspected person, he should have been watchlisted.
“I don’t know whether the NSA has a detention facility. The NSA is an advisory body to the President. So, if he (NSA Nuhu Ribadu) felt that the suspects should be remanded, he should have sent him to the EFCC or the DSS to keep until the date of the court but to keep him in a guest house where he has access to telephone?
“For them now to allow him to go and pray? I think there are a lot of loopholes and lapses there. We have held heads of state in detention.
”So, I don’t see why this particular guy will be allowed to go to the nearest mosque to pray and dissapeared. There is a compromise,” he said.
Recall that the NSA office said Anjarwalla escaped from custody when he observed a Jumat prayer last Friday, March 22, 2024, in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
”Preliminary investigation shows that Mr Anjarwalla fled Nigeria using a smuggled passport,” it said.
“The personnel responsible for the custody of the suspect have been arrested, and a thorough investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to his escape from lawful detention.”
Until his escape, Anjarwalla, who holds British and Kenyan citizenship and serves as Binance’s Africa Regional Manager, was facing trial in the courts.
