25 young people were arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) during a pre-wedding event in Katsina State, which is well-known for drug misuse competitions.
The event was a component of the wedding celebrations, according to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi.
In response to reliable information, NDLEA agents reportedly stopped the drug misuse competition in the Katsina neighbourhood of Shola Quarters, according to Arise News.
Twenty-five young people were arrested by the police for actively taking part in the drug party and using a variety of illicit substances, including a drug cocktail made in a plastic bucket.
Despite not being at the location when the arrests were made, the groom, Musa Gwandi, who had planned the drug party with his buddies, was later captured on Sunday, December 3rd, following a thorough search for him.
The same day, a truck bearing the licence plate BEN 302 YS (Edo) was stopped by NDLEA agents in Anambra.
After conducting an examination, they found and confiscated a number of things, including 5,612 bottles of syrup containing codeine, 57,800 tramadol capsules, and 5,100 ampoules of injectable pentazocine.
Over the past week, the NDLEA’s World Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign has been going strong all across the nation. Town hall meetings and lectures on sensitization were part of the programme, which was held at schools, marketplaces, houses of religion, and other venues.
Rivers, Oyo, Osun, Adamawa, Cross River, Zamfara, and Anambra hosted a few of the major events.
The officers and men of the AIIA, MMIA, Katsina, Anambra, Kaduna, Kogi, Borno, Ondo, and FCT Commands, as well as those of Seaports Operations, have been commended for their successful arrests and seizures over the past week, according to Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA.
He urged every employee to keep up the agency’s vigorous campaign against drug addiction while striking a balance with programmes aimed at lowering drug demand.
