Tragic Drowning Incident in Jigawa State: Two Young Men Lose Lives in Pond

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has reported the tragic deaths of two young men who drowned in a pond in Birninkudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The deceased, identified as 20-year-old Abubakar Alhaji and 25-year-old Abubakar Abdullahi, tragically lost their lives while attempting to cross the pond on their way to a market in Waza village.

The unfortunate event took place on Monday at approximately 11:00 AM. According to a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Badaruddeen Tijjani, the NSCDC Divisional Officer in Birninkudu, CSC Muhammad Garba, received a distress call from concerned community members around 11:30 AM, prompting an immediate response.

NSCDC officers, along with the divisional disaster management team, were swiftly deployed to the scene to carry out a rescue mission. After an intense 48-minute search, the team, with the help of local residents, managed to recover the bodies of the two victims.

NSCDC Deploys Personnel for Imo State Governorship Election

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of human and operational assets to support security measures during the Imo State governorship election. The State Commandant, Edwin Osuala, addressed the officers and men of the NSCDC at their state command headquarters in Awka before their deployment.

Osuala emphasized the importance of professionalism and ethical standards in carrying out their election duties. He warned NSCDC personnel against compromising with political actors and assured that anyone found wanting would face decisive action. NSCDC Seals Unlicensed Private Guard Security Firms in FCT

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) took decisive action by sealing three unlicensed Private Guard Security (PGC) firms for illegal operations. These firms were also operating without valid licenses, raising concerns about national security.

NSCDC FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, led the clampdown operation, emphasizing the importance of regulating private security outfits. Properly registered and licensed companies have their guards’ biometrics recorded to ensure national security is not compromised. Some unregistered firms have been known to act as informants to criminals.

The sealed companies include Ochacho Security Limited, Justigo Security Limited, Allied Security Services, and Maco Security Services. Ochacho Security Limited, Justigo Security Limited, and Allied Security Services were sealed for failing to renew their licenses, while Maco Security Services was sealed for not registering with the NSCDC as required by law.

As Muslims around the nation celebrate Eid-El-Fitr, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dispatched 40,000 men to ensure national security.

This was said in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by Olusola Odumosu, Director of Public Relations for the NSCDC.
In cooperative operations with sister agencies, Odumosu claimed that NSCDC Commandant General (CG) Ahmed Audi had instructed the staff to ensure effective security of vital infrastructure and national assets.

The CG also instructed the staff to staff sensitive areas such car parks, marketplaces, shopping centers, places of worship, and other strategic locations.

He charged heads of formations to be more vigilant and highly sensitive to their environment to avoid unpleasant surprises from enemies of the country.

“You must be on top of your game, be very vigilant and highly sensitive to your environment because we are not going to take any chances,” he said.

He further charged all commands to be proactive, so as to achieve greater results.
“An intelligent-driven approach must be adopted to nip crime in the bud, be proactive and make sure you engage intelligent driven strategies.
“This will help to get credible information about intended plans of criminal elements so that we can crush them before they strike,” Audi said.
Audi further warned all Zonal Commanders to effectively coordinate formations under their jurisdictions to prevent any breach of the peace.

“All Special Forces of the Corps must be fully engaged during the Sallah celebration to guarantee the safety of lives of our people.

“I will hold Zonal Commanders responsible and State Commandants accountable for any breach of peace in any state,” he warned.
He called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the peace and unity of the country, and success of the new administration.

The CG charged all personnel to cooperate and synergise with other security agencies to tackle all forms of criminalities.

NSCDC Detains 21 Over Illicit Miners Cross River Communities

No less than 21 alleged illegal miners have been detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in communities in the state of Cross River.

According to Vanguard, the suspects were detained at the Utanga community in the state’s Obanliku Local Government Area by members of the NSCDC working in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.

The suspects, who were detained on May 11, were paraded by Mr. Samuel Fadeyi, the state commandant of the NSCDC, on Monday at the organization’s headquarters in Calabar, the state capital.

Fadeyi said illegal mining could worsen security challenges and cause natural disasters in the community.
The commandant said “Our searchlight was able to identify a place in the Utanga community in the Obanliku Local Government Area where we raided 21 suspects caught in the act of illegal mining.

“We arrested them together with their implements and tools. The suspects are undergoing investigation and soon, we will prosecute them.

“Some communities are complicit in these illegal mining activities in their area because they rely on peanuts that come out of it and forget the challenges that may come thereafter.

“These illegal activities can attract criminal elements, warlords, insecurity and disaster in the area during the process of digging.

“Rather, they would have approached the Federal Mines Office and get a licence and allow the mines officer to put them through before undergoing such activities.”

The Federal Mines Officer, Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Cross River State, Mayowa Omosebi, said efforts had been on to arrest the suspects and stop illegal mining in the area.

Omosebi said, “What we are asking for is more funding because of the peculiarity of distance in Cross River. The headquarters of the state office is very far from where you have the illegal activities taking place.

“There is no place illegal mining activities are taking place without the consent of the land owners; I have organised a stakeholders’ forum to educate them on the need to do the right thing.

“The licence for mining is straightforward, and we keep advising them to explore the right channels and shun illegality.”

The NSCDC recovered various implements such as pumping machines, diggers, head-pans and shovels from the suspects.

Randy Father Detained For Allegedly Impregnating, Raping Daughter For 3 Years

A 41-year-old father has been detained by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kogi Command, on suspicion of defiling and raping his 16-year-old daughter.

Ahmad Gandi, the state’s commandant, stated that the command had received a complaint on May 5 from an NGO after parading the suspect on Wednesday at the NSCDC Command Headquarters in Lokoja.
He claims that the accusation stems from a defiling, rape, and incest case in which the suspect is the victim’s biological father.

The girl was abused for three years, from 2020 to 2023, starting when she was 16 years old, according to the commandant.

Gandi said that the younger sister of the victim advised her that they should either commit suicide or kill their father to free themselves from the abusive act.

The commandant said that the father had admitted committing the act, saying he would be charged to court after concluding the investigation.

Gandi commended the NGO for reporting the case to the command while urging other victims in the society who were dying in silence to come out and report such cases.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that newsmen were not allowed by the NSCDC to disclose the identity and names of both the victim and the suspect due to the sensitivity of the case to avoid the victim’s stigmatisation.

The victim told newsmen that she had been sexually abused by her father since 2020 after her mother left home.

“It happened in 2020 when my mum left home and since then my Dad had been sexually abusing me.

In 2021, my father impregnated me and took me to a clinic where they aborted the pregnancy I had for him.

“I couldn’t leave the house because of my younger sister as I was afraid my father could do the same thing to my sister,” the victim said.

“After aborting the pregnancy he continued the sexual abuse until I couldn’t take it anymore, which I have to report to an NGO who reported the case to NSCDC,” the victim narrated.

On his part, the suspect admitted to having committed the act, that he actually dis-flowered his daughter, saying he was hypnotized after his wife left her in 2020.

“I actually committed the act but I don’t know how I did it. I love my wife very well; I begged her to come back home but she never did for the past three years.

“It is the same stage I was in when my mother left my father that my wife left my children for me and went away. I love my wife but she never comes back to me”, the suspect said.

In his comment, Mr Abdulrasak Ibrahim, the Executive Director of the NGO, the Islamic Centre for Communication and Creative Thought (ItrippleCT), commended the NSCDC for doing a fantastic job by swinging into action to arrest the suspect.

Ibrahim noted that after hearing about the issue, the victim was immediately relocated to a safe place from her father’s house to protect her from further abuse.

Speaking on the matter, the Chairperson, Federation of Women Lawyer (FIDA), Kogi, Barr LilianOkolo; and Amb. Idris Muraina, the Chairman, of Kogi Network of NGO (KONGONET), also commended the NSCDC for their proactive-ness in handling the case.

Okolo assured that FIDA would make sure that the suspect was brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to other irresponsible fathers out there.
Muraina assured that the NGOs in Kogi would continue to put professionalism into play in such cases to ensure that the right of the girl-child was protected and get justice for her.

He urged other victims of such acts going through such traumatic experiences in the state to speak out, assuring that it would be pursued to a logical conclusion to get justice for them.

The KONGONET Chairman also appealed to the State and Federal Governments, and the International community to provide a “Safe Keep” accommodation in the state where victims of such acts could be accommodated during the duration of the case.

“As of today we don’t have such “safe-keep” accommodate in Kogi where gender-based violence victims could be kept during the trying period,” Muraina said.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra Command has advised its officers to maintain professionalism and diligence in carrying out their responsibilities throughout the 2023 Easter vacation.

This comes as the commander of the state command, Isidore Chikere, authorized the deployment of 1,077 (1077) officers to safeguard the safety of residents’ lives and property during the Easter celebration.

Chikere instructed agency men to show a high sense of accountability during the period, according to a statement acquired by Newsmen.

The officers and men dispatched are said to be from the agency’s Operations Department, Rapid Reaction Squad (RRS) Anti-vandalism Unit, and Special Female Squad.

Commandant Chikere, who addressed today at the Command Headquarters in Awka, the state capital, reminded officers and men of the need of adhering to the Easter celebration operational order issued by the Commandant General of the NSCDC.

He also urged all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to conduct effective and rigorous patrols of their respective areas of responsibility in order to secure all Important National Assets and Infrastructure.

The NSCDC chief also asked Christians to use the season to seek divine intervention in the nation’s affairs and to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ’s supreme sacrifice by abstaining from all types of political, social, and religious violence and vices.
