Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, a former vice president of Nigeria, modified his Twitter profile picture after the microblogging service removed his verification tag on May 29, 2023.

According to Newsmen, Osinbajo uploaded a back view photo showing his and his wife Dolapo leaving the Aso Rock after Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima were sworn in as president and vice president, respectively.

Checks by this site showed that Osinbajo’s verification tag was instantly removed minutes after the former vice president updated his profile, while Muhammadu Buhari’s account was still active.

Tinubu Ten Times Better Than Peter Obi, Osinbajo – Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri, a former presidential assistant, disagreed with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, about his claim that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would have been a better president than Bola Tinubu.

Osinbajo is not superior than Tinubu, according to Omokri, who maintained that Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the finest presidential candidate.

Speaking through his Instagram account, he emphasized that despite having been in office for eight years, Osinbajo has done nothing to improve the nation.

According to the media personality, Governor Tinubu was able to construct new cities from the ground up, ports, train infrastructure, roads, hospitals, industries, independent power plants, and other marvels.

He said that during his tenure as governor, Obi could only take pride in having a brewery.

Tinubu, according to Omokri, is far superior to Osinbajo and Obi together.

He wrote, “The best Presidential candidate, in my opinion, is Waziri Atiku Abubakar. I know without a doubt that Bola Tinubu is a dr*g lord. However, I’m afraid I have to disagree with Peter Obi that Osinbajo is better than Tinubu. Look at Nigeria in the last eight years. What was Osinbajo’s impact? The reason why Peter Obi lives in Lagos and not in Anambra, where he was Governor for eight years, is because Tinubu performed as Governor of Lagos, though he also lined his pocket.

“As Governor, Tinuhu built new cities from scratch, ports, rail infrastructure, roads, hospitals l, industries, independent power stations, paid civil servants, and mentored men like Osinbajo, Fashola, Aregbesola, Fayemi, Akabueze and co, who are now movers and shakers. He also increased Lagos’s internally generated revenue by 360%.

“In contrast, what did Osinbajo and Obi achieve while in power? Osinbajo and Buhari gave us two recessions, while Peter Obi’s singular boast is the beer factory, in which he had a personal investment, and saving the then equivalent of almost $400 million of Anambra money in a bank where he had significant interest in and was its former chairman. Every time that money yielded interest, Obi personally benefited in the millions of dollars!

“Tinubu may be a dr*g lord, and I will never have anything to do with such a vile person. However, put Osinbajo and Obi together and multiply them by 10, and Tinubu is still better than them in managing men and resources.”

CCB Reveals Those Not Mandated To Declare Their Assets Public

The public disclosure of their assets is not required of President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, or any public officials who are about to leave office.

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has revealed that there is a law that does not mandate that public officials make their asset declarations public, according to news sources.

Senior CCB officer Veronica Kato told The Punch that although the CCB Act did not require it, officials could choose to make it public on their own volition.

CCB Gives Buhari, Osinbajo, Others Deadline To Submit Their Asset Declaration Forms

According to Kato, the bureau could only release public asset declaration records in cases where a public figure was being looked into or on trial for suspected corruption involving the acquired assets.

She said: “It is not possible to make the assets declared to the CCB by these public officials public. There is a law guiding the CCB and that law does not allow us to do so. This is due to the conditions upon which the assets declaration is constituted according to the guidelines.

“The assets declaration form is to be given to the public officials on terms and conditions as prescribed by the National Assembly, and those terms and conditions, up till now, do not permit us to make it available to the public. Besides, it is a private document and it’s confidential.

“It’s a different case where there’s a petition or something of that sort demanding that a particular official’s declared assets should be made available for investigation purposes. If a public official decides on their own volition to make it public, such a person will do that. We have been established for over 25 years and we don’t make declared assets’ details public because we don’t have the power to do that.

“For example, when the incumbent President and his deputy came into office, they decided to declare their assets publicly. That was their decision. They are also the only ones that can decide to make the assets public as they are leaving.

“Our duty is to ensure that public officials declare their assets to the CCB; we take custody of the asset declaration forms and we verify those assets, and when we see red flags, we investigate and prosecute them if we find contravention against the code of conduct rule. Those are our primary functions.”

Meanwhile, Kato said the general public can provide evidence in cases where they think public officials have acquired more properties before getting into office.

She said: “And the citizen can provide evidence to proof that such assets were acquired with illicit funds and through the abuse of their office, the citizen can write a petition to the CCB and we will investigate and compare what they declared with what they now have.

“If we can establish beyond reasonable doubt that these things were acquired illicitly, then we go to court.”

Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s Vice President, has publicly stated that African countries see the People’s Republic of China as a greater ally in terms of foreign loans than the West.

Osinbajo, speaking at King’s College London on Monday about China’s investment in Africa, argued that Africa requires the financing and infrastructure that China gives, claiming that China appears where and when the West does not or is unwilling to appear.

Osinbajo, a law professor, noted that most African countries are rightfully unapologetic about their intimate relations with China, recalling the devastating conditions of the Bretton Woods loans, which he characterized as still vivid in his mind.

According to him, China continues to be the largest source of foreign direct investment, supporting hundreds of thousands of African jobs.

Osinbajo reminded the West that China lends Africa 5% while Western countries and institutions lend 23%, which is absurd when compared.

“$254 billion in 2021, over four times the sum of US-Africa commerce,” he said. China is the greatest source of foreign direct investment in Africa, generating hundreds of thousands of employment.

“This is roughly double the level of US foreign direct investment. China remains by far the largest lender to African countries. Chinese companies have also taken the lead in exploiting minerals in Africa, many now in lithium mining in Mali, Ghana, Nigeria, DRC, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

“Most African countries are rightly unapologetic about their close ties with China. China shows up where and when the west will not or are reluctant. And many African countries are of the view that the beware of the Chinese Trojan loans advise form the west is wise but probably self-serving. Africa needs the loans and the infrastructure. And China offers them. In any case the history of loans from Western institutions is not great.

“The memory of the destructive conditionalities of the Breton Woods loans are still fresh and the debris is everywhere. And the preoccupation of western governments and media with the so-called China debt trap might well be an over-reaction. I recommend an eye opening lecture by Professor Deborah Brautigam about two weeks ago at Jesus College Cambridge.”

He added, “The truth as she points out, is that all of Chinese lending to Africa is only 5% of all outstanding public and publicly guaranteed debt in low- and middle-income countries, compared to 23% held by the World Bank and other multilaterals. Chinese lenders account for 12 per cent of Africa’s private and public external debt. And the Chinese have also been there when the debts cannot be paid.”

“In early 2020 as COVID battered African economies China came together with other G20 members to launch the Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI). 73 low-income economies benefited from the suspension of principal and interest payments. Chinese banks provided 63% of the total debt relief while being only owed 30% of the debt service payments due,” he stated.

The All Progressives Congress has explained why Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and several other party members aren’t supporting Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate.

Some party members, including the Vice President, have not been seen campaigning for their party’s candidate since the APC launched its presidential campaign in Jos on November 15, 2022.

Osinbajo, who has been spotted at other social events including the Baptist Boys High School in Abeokuta’s recent centennial celebration, has been quiet about Tinubu’s candidature ever since he lost the party’s primary.

Even on social media where the VP has a strong base and posts all his major activities, he has never posted any material to show his support for Tinubu’s candidacy.
Similarly, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has also been absent from the campaign train of his party.
Reacting, the APC Presidential Campaign Council spokesman, Festus Keyamo, said, the Vice President was acting on the directive of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to concentrate on governance.

He said, “Rotimi Amaechi (former Minister of Transportation) was there in Adamawa State and Jos recently; he has been going to the rallies but he has picked the ones he wants to attend.

“For the Vice President, it was a directive for him to face governance, and you can see Mr President has been going round campaigning. Also, Ngige is not campaigning against our party, he just said he will remain neutral for his own reasons and that is just one minister out of 43.

“We have an absolutely strong coalition in the APC unlike the PDP that has virtually collapsed.”

President Muhammadu Buhari prevented Vice President Yemi Osinbajo from asking the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to look into fraud charges made against him, according to Vice President Osinbajo.

The National Emergency Management Agency’s governing board was indicted in 2018 by the house of representatives’ ad hoc committee on emergency and catastrophe preparedness (NEMA).

A N5.8 billion north-east assistance fund was allegedly improperly approved by the board, which is presided over by Osinbajo.

Additionally in 2020, it was claimed that the vice president had received N4 billion from Ibrahim Magu, the previous acting chairman of the EFCC.

Osinbajo called the allegations “baseless” and invited Mohammed Adamu, a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), to look into them.

Speaking on Friday at a private dinner to celebrate Buhari’s 80th birthday, Osinbajo said: “One day, I went to him because there were some allegations that were made against me.

“I went to him to show him the letter I’d written to the EFCC to investigate.

“This time he said, ‘VP, why do you worry about all these people? These people just make all sorts of allegations, they make all sorts of stories up, even they are saying that I am about to get married again. Laolu Akande, the spokesman for Osinbajo, hailed the encounter as a cordial visit on Twitter.

Kashim Shettima, the APC vice presidential candidate, former House Speaker Dimeji Bankole, and other APC heavyweights were also there when Osinbajo paid a visit to Tinubu.

Osinbajo was left off the lengthy list of the APC Presidential Campaign Council after losing the party’s early June presidential primary to Tinubu.

President Muhammadu Buhari has received congratulations from Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president, on his 80th birthday.

Obi appealed to God Almighty for Buhari, who celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday, to live longer and be in better health.

This was mentioned by the former governor of Anambra State in a tweet on Saturday.

ASUU Strike: FG To Review University Autonomy Laws – Osinbajo

Following recent agitations by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo stated that the Federal Government intends to revisit university autonomy regulations.

This comes only weeks after ASUU called off an eight-month strike in which its members demanded, among other things, enhanced welfare, the revitalization of public universities, and academic autonomy.

Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, represented Osinbajo at an event in Abuja organized by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commemorate the NUC’s 60th anniversary and the unveiling of the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CIMAS).

Nigerian Universities: How I’ll Tackle ASUU Strike Crisis – Atiku

According to the vice president, one of the greatest concerns afflicting university education in Nigeria is the ongoing strike action by various unions in public universities.

“The most recent strike actions by the university-based unions have necessitated a revisit on the issues and scope of university autonomy by government,” he said.

“This will lead to a review of the university autonomy laws to appropriately address funding, including staff remuneration, institutional governance, and administration, as well as issues relating to internally generated revenue.”

According to him, the university system has cumulatively lost over 50 months from 1999 to date as a result of strike actions by ASUU.

“I doubt if there is any country that has lost such amount of time to strikes in its university system.

Another Strike Looms In Universities As ASUU Holds NEC Meeting

“From the first strike in 1978 to date, all the issues have remained the same. The agitations have been primarily on funding, university autonomy, and remunerations.

“I need to stress here that government alone cannot fund education in the country. It is therefore imperative that a sustainable model of funding university education must be developed,” he said.

ASUU members protesting withholding salaries at the University of Abuja Mini Campus on Friday, November 25, 2022, as part of an eight-month strike.

Osinbajo praised the NUC for its vision in unbundling disciplines like as agriculture, as well as the establishment of three new disciplines, namely Allied Health Sciences, Architecture and Communication, and Media Studies.

He predicted that the launch of CIMAS would usher in a new era of quality and relevant content delivery.

For the majority of 2022, the country’s public universities have been paralyzed by industrial action over academic workers’ demands, including the non-payment of N1.1 trillion in university revitalisation funds.

ASUU put off its strike in October after a court order. Its relationship with the federal government, though, has remained tense.

The professors received partial payment from the federal government at the end of October, prompting a one-day nationwide protest in November.

However, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, stated that the Federal Government’s ‘no work, no pay’ policy implemented during the strike is legal.

He went on to say that the decision was based on the government’s legitimate interest in avoiding moral hazard and prohibiting disruptive labor activity.

The federal government also defended the pro-rata payment, claiming that employees could not be paid for work that was not completed.

The instructors were paid what they were due, according to Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education.

Similarly, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, denied media accusations that the government was biased in paying university lecturers through the ministry’s spokesman, Olajide Oshundun.

However, ASUU National President Prof Emmanuel Osodeke accused Ngige for allegedly authorizing the part payment, calling him a “interloper.” He also voiced confidence in the Federal Government’s ability to resolve ASUU’s protests.

Thinking That Corruption Pays Is A Mistake, Says Osinbajo

On Tuesday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said it was erroneous to believe that corruption pays.

When the Operation Manuals for Integrity and Zero Tolerance Clubs were unveiled in Abuja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Osinbajo made this statement.

He claims that many people who believe they can get away with corruption are frequently shocked when the long arm of the law, though occasionally slow, eventually catches up with them.

“There is no time bar or statute of limitation against a crime. A man who steals this year can be arrested in 10 years’ time for his crimes.
“So when you steal, you cannot sleep with both eyes closed because every knock at the door will get you worried.

“Which is why the establishment of integrity clubs in schools is so important”, he said.

Osinbajo said it was important to first recognise that integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness were crucial individual and collective attributes for successful people and communities.

He added that every corrupt act was not just a crime, but a crime against society and even children yet unborn.

“Every public officer who steals robs the Nigerian society of funds for health care, education and so on.

“In our integrity clubs, we must become policemen against corruption and wrongdoing

“Whether it is a member of government or a shop assistant or your friend in class who is cheating, they destroy our reputation,” he added.

The vice president commended “the visionary Chairman of the EFCC for the great initiative”.

“For realising that we must develop an anti-corruption army. That army is waiting in our schools, and we must teach them early that corruption is the worst destroyer of destinies and people.
“And they must fight it as you fight a mortal enemy in war,” he added.
Osinbajo explained that the conceptualisation of the manual deserved commendation and the establishment of the clubs in schools was timely.

“The greatest challenge which we face currently is how to safeguard the youth from the ethical crisis and confusion confronting our nation,” he added.
The EFCC Chairman, Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, said the choice of school children and youths as torchbearers in this important crusade was formed by the fact that they were vulnerable to the effect of economic and financial crimes.

He highlighted that the Commission had designed programmes and activities aimed at nurturing a culture of integrity in the formative years of young Nigerians.

According to him, two of such programmes are the EFCC Integrity Club for primary and secondary schools and Zero Tolerance Club for tertiary institutions.

He added that the clubs were designed not only to improve children’s and youth’s understanding and sensitivity to the issue of economic and financial crimes but also to promote integrity, honesty, transparency and accountability.

“The manuals which are being unveiled today are viable templates that will ensure that our children and youth are exposed to impactful and life-transforming values in an organised and sustainable manner.

“They will serve as a guide to all actors that have roles to play in moulding the characters of this young population in various schools and also offer the Commission a framework for quality assurance and control.

“We believe that this Club adds a welcome variety to the learning experience of our children and youth with long-term potential as a catalyst for the fight against economic and financial crimes in Nigeria,” he said.

The Chairman, House Committee on Anti-Corruption, Nicholas Shehu, assured EFCC of the House’s readiness to provide legislation and adequate funding to ensure that they carry out their mandate.
He commended the EFCC for the initiative, which aimed at taking the battle right to the grassroots and to the young ones so that when they grow up, they would appreciate that corruption has a negative impact on our country.

Hushpuppi: ‘Buhari, APC Worsening Nigeria’s Integrity – PDP

The Chairman, House Committee on Financial Crimes, Abdullahi Dutse, said that the idea of catching them young was laudable.

“If all of us are brought the way the EFCC Chairman is doing now, probably there may not be less corruption as it is today. These young ones will grow up to be better citizens,” he added.

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, represented by Adegboye Adebola, said the manuals would serve as advocacy tools in mobilising Nigerian students to embrace patriotic zeal in fighting against economic and financial crimes.
He appealed to all stakeholders in the education sector especially parents and teachers to use the manuals as a tool to sensitise students.

“For the earlier, we start to inculcate the values of integrity and handwork in our students, the better for our nation,” he said.

On her part, Mrs Elizabeth Godwin, the Principal, Model Secondary School, Maitama, said that the school stood against corruption.

“We will do everything within our power to encourage our students to stand up against all forms of crimes in society,” she added.
