Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State apparently learned of a purported scheme by Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP’s national chairman, to act against his loyalists.
On Tuesday night, the governor reportedly learned about Senator Ayu’s intention to undercut his close supporters, including Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, and Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, Wike has received vociferous support from people like Ortom and Fayose, among others, after the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, passed him over for the vice-presidential ticket.

Reports claim that Senator Ayu intended to utilize his authority as national chairman to discredit individuals like Fayose, Ortom, and others in their various states.
Recall that the PDP chapter in Ekiti State is presently experiencing a leadership crisis as a result of Bisi Kolawole, the party’s nominee for governor, losing the recently held gubernatorial election.
Wike, who is not opposed to talks to address the party conflict, is insisting that Senator Ayu quit in accordance with the deal reached before he (Ayu) was endorsed as the national chairman, a close associate of the Rivers State Governor informed Newsmen.
An associate of Wike claimed that representatives from the governor’s strategy team, which included Ortom, Fayose, former Gombe Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, and former Cross River Governor Donald Duke, would speak with Atiku’s supporters on the governor’s behalf.

The source told Newsmen: “The strategy team will be responsible for holding talks with Atiku and his men.
“Also, Governor is insisting that Ayu must step down from his position as national chairman since the party has picked its presidential candidate from the North.
“Wike is of the opinion that the North cannot have both the presidential candidate of the PDP and national chairman at the same time.
“He is also watching events in some State chapters of the party, especially where his allies are involved. He told some of his men yesterday that should anything be done to undermine the interest of his allies because of their support for him, even his team will no longer be available for any peace talks.

“For instance, look at what they did Ekiti during the governorship election. Look at how those at Wadata abandoned the party in Ekiti just because of Fayose’s support for Governor Wike. He (Wike) is has said that he will no longer sit back and allow any of his allies to be undermined under any guise.”
