Following the aftermath of the death of a young man that arose from a clash between two rival masquerade cult groups yesterday, the streets of Nnewi have been found to be deserted, as persons who were previously seen engaged in masquerading have all gone into hiding.

Most residents gripped with fear have avoided the site of the ugly incident, as the number of masquerades was discovered to have reduced in most flashpoints and critical areas previously held sway by masqueraders.

A visit by our correspondent to major streets in Nnewi like the St. Mary’s Junction, Anglican Girls Junction, Ibeto Junction, St. Peters Road Junction, Traffic light and other places indicate that the streets have been deserted by the masquerade and many residents.

In an Interview with Dozie, a resident of Nnewichi, he said that most masquerades have no option than to remain at home due to the situation of things at the moment.

Peculiar tragedies have remained a yearly occurrence in Nnewi, as many residents have suggested that deliberate laws should be made to avoid this kind of incident in the future.
