Traffic Wardens absent as gridlock shuts down Junctions in Nnewi

The norm within Nnewi, is the busyness of its roads during evening hours, as commuters from all part of the city go to their various homes. This being the major cause of traffic gridlocks.
Monday 17th, September 2018, a severe gridlock occurred within Nnewi, with the gridlock spreading from Ibeto junction to the Nnewi triangle down to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, also extending to the road leading to the Oriagbor market. The Traffic gridlock which started around 4 pm lasted till 5.30pm, was caused by the untimely closing of the traffic wardens.
Due to the nature of this gridlock, quarrels between commuters ensued, a series of fights broke out between bike riders and exchange.
However, respite came when a civilian to took up the post up to control the traffic jam, within 20 minutes all sides of the road was cleared up as people heaved a sigh of relieve as they rode home safely with no one hurt.
This mirrors the state of the roads in Nnewi and the need for the intervention of the government with sound policies that will enable the free movement of citizens in a town already congested.
