It has been estimated that in a world of billions, about 805 million people live in chronic hunger. 60% women and almost 5 million children under the age of 5 die of malnutrition related causes every day.
The World Food Day celebrated annually on the 16th of October is a day of actions dedicated to tackling global hunger. People from all over the world converge to declare their commitment to eradicate worldwide hunger from our generation and possibly, the next.
Over the world, in over 150 countries, events are organized to celebrate the founding and creation of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1945.
These events promote worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure food security and nutritious diets for all.
The theme of this year’s World Food Day is “Our actions are our future. A #zerohunger world by 2030 is possible.”

In addition to its goals and objectives, the World Food Day is not a day for excessive food consumption like the name may be misinterpreted to imply, but a day to plan ahead for the future; as the theme suggests.
This plan of working towards a hunger free world can be achieved by planting more foods (planting more than is consumed), taking care of agricultural outputs and green life for future use.
