POLICE INTENSIFY MANHUNT FOR KILLERS OF COMMUNITY LEADER IN ANAMBRA

The Anambra State Police Command has intensified efforts to get at the killers of one Angus Okoye, 48, believed to be a community leader in Isuanocha, Awka North LGA.

He was murdered by unknown assailants on Sunday, December 16.

The Command, in a report by the state’s police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, said that the body of the deceased was recovered at a boundary between Isu Aniocha in Awka North and Nawgu community in Dunukofia LGA, through a joint effort of policemen from Dunukofia Division and community vigilante.

The report further revealed that when the victim was rushed to the hospital, he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Anaedooline learnt that the deceased got missing on Saturday, December 15, before he was found on Sunday, December 16, where he was shot on the head and neck by his assailants, who, after killing him, abandoned his Honda Pilot vehicle with REG number Lagos. FST 430 DM.

The report further revealed that some exhibits were recovered at the scene of the murder, including one expanded cartridge and three empty shells of barreta pistol; adding that the corpse was deposited at the Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy; while case is under investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident and to apprehend suspects behind the murder.

It said intensive patrols and surveillance is ongoing in the area to forestall possible breakdown of law and order in the community.
