How The Bond Between The Otolos and Isus was Formed

Isu, descendants of Ezeani Isu; the first son of Ikenga, the first son of Prince Agbaja of Nri who founded the Agbaja clan. Isu, the elder brother to Nnewi the father of Digbo, Otolo’s father.

As a Child, Digbo lived at Ezeani Isu’s palace, present Obi Uruagu palace, where he was brought up in accordance with Nri customs and traditions and also ruling system.

It was during Digbo’s coaching series that he learned how religious annual calendar is regulated and fixing dates for annual festivals through the use of Ezeani Isu’s Aba Ogwe staff which originally came from Nri.

It was said that he ruled over the sons of Nnewi from the palace as they were bringing problems, seeking for Solutions to those Problems, even when the father, Nnewi was still alive. This act earned him the name “Digbo Nwa ka Nna ya”(Digbo who is greater than the father).

The relationship between Ezeani Isu and Otolo started at the premises of Eze divinity in the 16th century A.D when Ezeani Isu conferred on Digbo , as the king of the sons of Nnewi in the presence of his father Nnewi and Aro diviner.

It was said that on the day of Digbo’s departure from Ezeani Isu palace, present Obi Uruagu palace, Ezeani Isu gave him Ofo ochichi Ani Igbo which gave him supreme authority and control over Nnewi territory. He was escorted after his conferment by some Isu nobility as far as Okwuani Ikenga where he was received by his brothers before the Isus went back to the palace.
