UMUNNEALAM , NNEWI’s FIRST-BORN AND HOW IT CAME ABOUT .

Going by Historical facts, Umunnelam is the First Born of Nnewi albeit it generates a lot of Controversies among Young Nnewi Indigenes. Some of these young Nnewi Indigenes always ask why Umunnealam is located at the west side of Umudim (Umunnealam’s Brother ) Nnewi if he actually is the fisrtborn of Nnewi.

There are two different versions that supports the above assertion while also explaining the reason why Umunneala is currently located in Umudim.

The first version was of the opinion that Umunnealam offended his father, Nnewi, this caused Nnewi to send him away on exile as a form of punishment, Umudim (Umunnealam’s brother ) harboured him (Umunnealam ) and gave him a place to stay, which is where Umunnealam is located until this day.

The second version has it that Umunnealam was engaged in some form of strong cult activities which involves certain abstinences which prevented him from performing his duties as the Diokpala. So he(Umumnealam) left the whole diokpala duties to his immediate younger brother, otolo.

According to Nnewi Historian , Mr Anayo.C. Nwosu ,
The name of the first son was Okpala whose descendants currently live in Umunealam
Okpala was in fact the first son of Nnewi who was not around when his father ( Nnewi ) died. He didn’t return until the junior brother named Digbo performed the funeral rites.
The person who killed “efi ufo” for the Late father assumed the Obiship. That was how Digbo, the father of Otolo became the Obi Nnewi.

Ọkpala later settled in Umunealam. Not all the inhabitants of Umudim are related by blood just like Ezeikwuabo the junior brother of Otolo is part of Otolo village.
