Anambra First Lady Empowers Widows, Physically Challenged, Others in Nnewi (Photos)

The Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, has empowered hundreds of widows and physically challenged women in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Mrs Obiano who was at Nnewi North Local Government Secretariat today, Thursday, 15th August, 2019, donated bags of rice, school bags and envelopes containing the undisclosed amount of money to the widows and the physically challenged.

While presenting the items, Mrs Obiano said that the gesture was part of her yearly programme aimed at cushioning the present hardship experienced by the widows and the physically challenged in every local government in Anambra State.

Speaking, Mrs Obiano said that The Caring Family Enhancement (CAFE) which is providing economic empowerment for the less privileged is privately sponsored by privileged individuals in Anambra State.

According to her, CAFE has built houses for widows in Anambra State and has also provided economic support for the disabled, orphaned, elderly and the youths.

Speaking further, the Governor’s Wife said that her current tour of all the Local Government Areas in Anambra State is to consolidate the achievements CAFE has recorded.

Receiving the governor’s wife, the Wife of the Transition Chairman of North Local Government, Princess Chinelo Orizu, expressed his gratitude to her Excellency, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) for her efforts towards ensuring gender equality especially through CAFE, according to her, the Governor’s Wife has shown her unreserved commitment and support for the girl child, women empowerment, social development and rural intervention on basic amenities.

Also Speaking, the Commissioner of Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue commended the Governor’s Wife for assisting the needy even when there is nothing at stake politically. She said that Mrs Obiano will, through CAFE, empower hundreds of residents of Nnewi.

Commending Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, Nigeria Billionaire Auto-Manufacturer, Chief Dr. Innocent Chukwuma (Ifediaso) praised the Governor’s Wife for her philanthropic gesture, he appreciated Mrs Obiano for providing modern toilet facilities in different markets in Anambra State which is geared towards eradicating open defecation and improving hygiene in Anambra State.

Also, the Member Representing Nnewi North in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nonso Okafor (Smart), who is also the Chairman House Committee on Social Development, Gender and Women Affairs, said that Mrs Obiano has helped restore hopes to the hopeless through her economic empowerment, he, however, donated
food items in support of the Governor’s Wife.

Other dignitaries present include, the Chairman of Nzuko-ora Nnewi, Hon. Sir Ugochukwu Udemezue (Ifeneti Nnewi), the Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Empowerment, Hon. Afam Mbanefo, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Budget Monitoring and Implementation, Hon. Melie Onyejepu and Special Adviser to the Governor of Legislative Matters, Hon. Amala Anazodo,

The event attracted many women groups which include, Artisans Women Association Anambra State of North North, Njiko Umunwanyi Igbo Anambra Association, National Council of Women Societies Nigeria, Women Wing of Christian Association, The Women Wing of Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers, Igbo Women Traders Association Nnewi Zone.

Meanwhile, Eighty-six girls who recently concluded basic self-starter acquisition programmes were presented with start-up kits and stipends by the Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Chief (Dr.) Ebelechukwu Obiano, to venture into their chosen enterprises.
