This morning, APGA auditor general for Anambra Chapter, Nchekwube Tony Dunga called on the party leadership to act with speed and firmness if the party is serious about winning the gubernatorial election slated for November 6th, 2021.

According to Mr. Dunga, today, May 4th 2021, is too close to the AGPA primary yet there is no concrete apparatus on the ground to show that the party is geared towards winning what would be a competitive general election. He made this known in a statement made available to Anaedoonline.ng, a statement out “of every sense of respect and zeal as an officer of the party in the Anambra State Working Committee (SWC)” for the “survival of our great party”.

The first point of his critique was directed at the “sagacious and dependable” National Chairman, Ozonkpu Dr. Victor Ike Oye whom he charged to “look inwards so that the light that was handed over to him, will be passed unto another while shining brighter.”

“In the history of the party, I have never seen what is happening within the party today,” the party big shot said. He went on to condemn statements of party chieftains such as Victor Umeh who attribute the role of kingmakers to themselves thereby belittling the efforts of all “in the party that produced the reelection of the governor via a 21 over 21 victory.”

Tony Dunga named three areas of his greatest worry and they are as follow:

1. The party’s electoral guidelines for the election is not yet out

2. No member of the party as of date, has purchased either expression of interest or nomination form for such position, not to talk of having to be screened by the screening committee of the party.

3. Even when the National Leader of the party, who also is the Governor of Anambra State has Not publicly made known his choice of a successor to the National Executive Committee and/or National Working Committee of the party, as of date.

APGA forum insists on free and fair primary election

One aspect of the statement which is going to stick out as problematic is the fact that Tony Dunga expects Governor Willie to endorse a candidate already. This is contradictory because Tony Dunga is decrying internal democracy in APGA, lamenting thus, “Now, where is the internal democracy of the party? Has it been murdered?”

Somehow, he is suggesting that the governor of Anambra State and the Leader of APGA, Willie Obiano, make his preferred candidate known which would be a big knock if not complete destruction of the other contestants gunning for the party ticket.

Nchekwube Tony Dunga mentioned three areas Anambra APGA can show firmness during the June 23rd primary.

One, political appointees should be barred from participating in the congress that would elect the flagbearer of the party.

Two, in constituting the Congress Committee, Screening Committee, and/or Appeal Committee of the party, no member of APGA of Anambra extraction should be made a member of any of these committees.

Three, Ward Executives of the party in the 326 wards of Anambra State were elected in “a duly organised Ward Congress” should elect the party flagbearer.

Tony Dunga concluded with a reverberating night, “APGA must not die!”
